Hong Kong-born and bred artist DJ Fabsabs took inspiration from his home city to create "Midnight's Vengeance". A cinematic adventure, the EP is a tale of one night spent roaming around in Hong Kong, drawing on memories of its legendary clubs, bars and street drinking, along with hidden raves in underground warehouses, mountains, forests, and beaches.

Contrary to the cliches of "hands in the air", fireworks and champagne popping, "Midnight's Vengeance" illuminates the personal, emotive, solipsistic, and melancholic side of nightlife. Produced in Hong Kong, France and the UK, the album draws inspiration from a wide range of genres including Garage, Acid Breaks, 90s House, Space Disco, Indie Electronica, and Broken Beat. It is forged in the spirit of 90s rave and its diversity of music across genres, compared to the hyper-siloed environment clubbers encounter today.

Made between 2020 and 2022, the album reflects tumultuous changes taking place in Hong Kong, where parties have been frequently shut down or banned. For citizens, past life is a distant memory – old identities are torn asunder, the future is uncertain, and the once familiar city has become cold and unrecognisable.

The artwork is inspired by a passage Edvard Munch wrote about his seminal painting, The Scream. "I was walking along the road with two friends. The Sun was setting – the sky turned blood-red And I felt a wave of Sadness – I paused tired to Death – Above the blue black Fjord and City Blood and Flaming tongues hovered. My friends walked on – I stayed behind – quaking with Angst – I felt the great Scream in Nature".
